Tourism is an integral part of western Maine’s overall economy. On an annual basis, Maine’s Lakes and Mountains Region receives an estimated 2.25 million overnight visitors and 1.86 million day visitors. The Lakes & Mountains Region is truly a four season recreational destination, boasting some of Maine’s highest peaks, the Bigelow Range and Mahoosuc Mountains, and hundreds of glacial lakes. Some of Maine’s largest lakes are located here, including Sebago, Flagstaff, and Rangeley lakes. The region is family-friendly, safe, affordable and is just one hour from the Portland Jetport.

Maine’s Lakes & Mountains Tourism Council

Established in 1992, Maine’s Lakes and Mountains Tourism Council (MLMTC) is a non-profit Maine corporation with 501c6 designation that exists to promote and advertise with a global perspective the State’s identified Lakes and Mountains Region, as an attractive lakes and mountains vacation experience. The Council plans for tourism growth, promotes the region, coordinates with other tourism partners and provides assistance to their members throughout Western Maine. Council membership is open to all organizations in the Council’s region that have an interest in planning for tourism growth and/or promoting tourism.

Working closely with Maine’s Lakes and Mountains Tourism Council (MLMTC) to promote Western Maine as a tourism destination, AVCOG provides staff support, grant writing expertise and fiscal management services to the Council. Current MLMTC members include the Chambers of Commerce for Androscoggin County, Bethel Area, Greater Bridgton Lakes Region, Franklin County, Jay-Livermore-Livermore Falls, Oxford Hills, Rangeley Lakes Region, River Valley Area, Sebago Lakes Region, the Flagstaff Area Business Association and Androscoggin Valley Council of Governments.
