Planning staff provide assistance to comprehensive planning committees, planning boards, appeals boards, code enforcement officers and other municipal officials with a variety of planning and land use topics including:

Comprehensive Planning

  • Complete Plan Assistance or Development

Land Use Ordinances

  • Zoning and Shoreland Zoning
  • Site Plan Review
  • Subdivision

      Land Use Technical Assistance
      • Development Reviews
      • Ordinance Interpretation

      These services are funded through municipal dues and fee-for-service arrangements. Staff provides guidance ranging from phone calls to attendance at meetings and field visits. Work includes developing new ordinances, assisting with ordinance amendments and conducting workshops for individual member towns. Staff also assists many towns to conduct reviews of large or complex subdivisions and site plans. A multi-week Development Review Course is offered in the spring, with Planning Day held annually in the fall. Staff offers workshops to small groups of towns on an as needed basis.
