AVCOG provides regional planning and technical services for urban
and rural transportation, as well as transit.
Urban Transportation
The Androscoggin Transportation Resource Center (ATRC) is responsible
for urban transportation planning services in the Greater Lewiston-Auburn
Area. ATRC is the federally designated Metropolitan Planning Organization
for the urbanized area, defined as Lewiston, Auburn, Lisbon and
a portion of Sabattus. The major functions of ATRC are to carry
out transportation planning in the area in a consistent and continuous
manner to support the ATRC Long-Range Transportation Plan and to
develop a capital plan every two years known as the Transportation
Improvement Program (TIP). ATRC's work program is funded by the
Federal Highway Administration, the Federal Transit Administration
and the Maine Department of Transportation. AVCOG provides administrative
support to ATRC.

Rural Transportation
AVCOG provides technical staff support for planning and other rural
transportation related services for the region. The AVCOG Transportation
Committee has been formed to aid the MaineDOT in identifying the
transportation needs of the region. The Transportation Committee
is comprised of elected and appointed municipal officials, representatives
of regional environmental, business and alternative transportation
entities, and other interested parties. The committee has been meeting
to develop the Regional Needs Assessment and is expected to aid
in corridor and project prioritization for the region.
